I love taking macro shots. I guess the fixed distance off this lens sorta throughs me off. I have to move my body to center object. I am very green at photography no classes.

I like this focal length in a macro, and I like the aperture. I wish the L series macro were not 180mm, because I want a shorter macro. But Canon, those cads, don’t make a short Macro in a L Series lens. So I had to buy some plastic. Oh well. It’s fine, I guess. But not as sensual as my silky smooth L lenses. As a matter of fact, I am kind of embarrassed by it’s lack of a red ring, and plasticky-ness. But it works ok, and someday, I pray Canon will make me a nice L Series, honest to god METAL macro in a shorter focal length. Like 65mm, and f2.5, OK Canon gods?

i have never done macro before and started photography a month back….i was on my 50mm/1.8 350d…
so…i wanted to try macro and bought this lens based on he awesome reviews.
heres my thuts:
1) sharp. tho ppl say its so sharp, i expected more than any lens cud prolly do…
2) u need a tripod…or a lot of light…the f/2.8 is only at infinity (i didn’t know this before reading the manual tho i shud have known)
3) because the focus is literally a millimeter or so at 1:1, my 350d’s veiwfinder isn’t large enough for me to nail the focus…my pics always came out focusing slightly off the mark(and when i mean real slightly but noticeable without zoom). of course, its my inexperience.
4) beginners advice : this lens is not like a 50mm lens in ease of use so if u dont have patience and dont want to learn to work around this (awesome) lens, u shud try the 60mm or 50mm…cuz they are ligther and prolly dont shake so much and there more stable/easier to use…not sure here tho..
all in all, i love this lens but it sure requires technique/patience…to get it dead right and explore its full potential i.e.

I bought it, got it within 2-3days. I do not remember. No problem with billing, shipping or the actual product. New out of box. I will return for my future camera needs.

Can’t say anything bad besides the slow focusing. But this is sharp. Awesome macro and tele capabilities.
